Job Description

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):

  • Under general supervision, provides health physics, industrial hygiene and safety field coverage for the Company and its subcontractors.

  • Monitors and evaluates work areas/site hazards for radiological and safety and health requirements.

  • Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances.

  • Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards.

  • Participates in OSHA inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation.

  • Monitors and tracks implementation of corrective action recommendations,

  • Assists in the performance of radiation and contamination surveys.

  • Implements, and monitors health physics, industrial hygiene, and industrial safety and health procedures as assigned.

  • Conducts assigned investigations to identify existing and potential health, safety and environmental control issues at work sites.

  • Monitors potentially hazards locations in accordance with surveillance and monitoring protocols.

  • Collects data on radiological health and safety as assigned.

  • Assists with technical proposal preparation.

  • Writes technical reports of findings and may assist with preparation and writing of safety and health policies and procedures.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance, if needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts, and techniques in the fields health physics, industrial hygiene and safety; and a general familiarity with applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of a health and safety program.

  • Skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks under general supervision and guidance.

  • Ability to independently organize own work to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties.

  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be a US citizen.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or Environmental Science or related field, or equivalent, and 1 -3 year’s experience. Can have equivalent work experience and education.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

80% of the work is in an office environment with low levels of noise and sitting at a desk working on a computer. Must be able to consistently lift at least 25 lbs and occasionally lift 40lbs. 20% of the work will be in the field and you must be able to wear appropriate PPE for the job location. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
