Join HII Marine Services Operations (MSO) in Chesapeake, VA as we keep the most powerful Navy the world has known afloat and ready to serve. MSO trades teams provide expert solutions on shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization. The selected Electronics Tech candidate will support MSO, working closely with our skilled trades teams, on surface ships, utilizing various tools of the trade, removing, installing and upgrading industrial systems and equipment. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and abroad, for durations up to 75% of the time when not assigned to a local task. Per Diem provided, based on location, when on travel. Travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company.

Weekend and/or overtime hours required depending on contract awards and support required as per trade/skill set.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Display high levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.

  • Support trades team by working on active class surface ships, performing alterations and installations for fleet modernization contracts such as Naval Surface Warfare Center and Naval Information Warfare Systems Command.

  • Apply masterful understanding and complete comprehension of production and processes, specialty trades functions and tools to provide technical support, install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify shipboard systems, integrated systems and related equipment/software at company, customer and/or field locations.

  • Perform quality inspections on finished product and provide onsite training of employees and customer support personnel when required.

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.

  • Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, provide work direction, and lead others. May manage one or more electrical installation crews.

  • Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks including duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignment.

  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

  • Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must have High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of Marine/Shipboard related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications.

  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.

  • Must have masterful knowledge, complete comprehension and experience with installing, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance and repairs of marine electrical and electronic systems, equipment, functions, associated equipment, and tools on marine vessels.

  • Must have valid multipin connector fabrication certification and experience in accordance with NAVSEA STD 009-73.

  • Must be highly proficient at reading electrical drawings, schematics, and tech manuals.

  • Must be able to interface and communicate effectively with employees, customers, and management.

  • Must be able to perform in a crew leadership role.

  • Must be able to follow and enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe and secure work environment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.

  • Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.

  • Must be able to work outside of trade specific requirements as team projects require towards task completion.

  • Must be able to travel between 50% - 75% when not assigned to local tasking.

Preferred Requirements

  • Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed electrical military A or C school, a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.

  • Candidates with Fiber Optic experience and certifications are preferred.

  • Candidates with NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications are preferred.

  • Candidate with a current or active DoD clearance preferred.

  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.

  • Basic computer usage and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software a plus.

  • Candidates with multiple marine installation trade skills are highly preferred

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
