Job Description

The Senior Business Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership, planning, leading and operational activities for environmental programs to accomplish performance objectives.

EssentialDuties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):

  • May manage two or more Project Managers and is responsible for contractual obligations over multiple locations with large complexity and revenue potential.

  • Determines and controls budget and resource allocations for programs and projects.

  • Participates in negotiation of contracts and contractual changes, as well as preparations of proposals, plans, specifications and financial conditions of contract.

  • Reviews work plans, schedules, costs and technical performance, and is responsible for solving any management, technical or administrative problems that arise during the program.

  • Reviews project deliverables as they pertain to program functional areas.

  • Oversees the program to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with quality assurance protocols and that program objectives are met.

  • Manages client relationships to ensure that all communication channels to and from the client organization are open and that requests are given the fullest attention and responded to promptly and appropriately.

  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.

  • Trains and mentors more junior staff.

  • May be responsible for various aspects of business development within their area of responsibility.

  • Expert knowledge and ability to develop and apply highly advanced principles, concepts and techniques of business management or related disciplines.

  • Skill and ability to perform critical strategic tasks and to interpret broad strategic requirements and develop and execute plans to satisfy them.

  • Ability to have major impact on organizational success and productivity, with extensive latitude for independent judgment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at the highest levels.

  • Ability to oversee operational activities for programs and projects in the organization.

  • Ability to manage Project Managers and be responsible for contractual obligations over multiple locations.

  • Ability to train and mentor more junior staff.

  • Viewed as an expert within a specialty and as highly competent within the broad discipline, both internally and externally.

  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent, advanced degree preferred

  • 20+ years of progressive experience

  • Experience with DOE

  • Experience in managing multiple large ($80M+) projects

  • Proven cost and schedule excellence

  • Knowledge of IT/HR/Contracts/Records

  • Experience with pension and unions

  • Experience with multiple lead contractors on a DOE site

  • Experience managing communication group

  • Experience with subcontracting (SB, goals, community commitments)
