This position is for a piping designer in the Propulsion Plant Engineering Activity (Department E83) supporting the maintenance, overhaul and modernization of CVN68 Class aircraft carrier propulsion plant. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing ship checks, developing ship modification designs involving shipboard steam plant systems, developing carbon steel piping inspection drawings, and for the development of engineering drawings and/or 3D models in support of these efforts. A working knowledge of Naval Ship systems and steam plant and HM&E piping systems is required. Familiarity with carbon steel piping inspections is preferred. Experience with both 2D and 3D computer aided design software programs such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Inventor is required. Experience with TeamCenter is a plus. Experience with the Microsoft Office suite is also required. The applicant must be willing to learn how to read and develop electrical drawings and perform laser scanning. The applicant should have good written and verbal communication skills.
Requires the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard commissioned ships, the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc. Requires the ability to obtain and retain a security clearance and may require the ability to obtain and retain full or partial radiation worker qualifications. May require short-duration work away from NNS in such areas as San Diego, CA, Bremerton, WA, Yokosuka, Japan or other areas of ship operations.
Associate's Degree and 1 year of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate's degree.
