External Job Description:
Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
The Engineer Mechanical 4 will be responsible for developing design and maintenance improvements for cognizant systems and components, by investigating problems, performing design studies, identifying life-cycle cost reductions, conducting lab testing and working with vendors. The E4 will prepare recommendations for our customers (NAVSEA 08 and NNL) for approval, with sufficient technical and cost justification. The E4 will resolve LARs, prepare NLIs, and support ShipAlt development for CVN68 Class ships and maintain drawings, provisioning documents, and technical manuals. The E4 will provide leadership and guidance to junior engineers and functional teams to resolve major technical issues and manage projects. They will act on behalf of the section supervisor when required.

The ideal candidate will possess HVAC experience (preferably related with reactor plants), reactor or steam plant knowledge, and some level of expertise in power piping design/analysis. The individual shall have graduated from an ABET accredited institution with a BS degree (mechanical, marine, nuclear or chemical engineering) and have excellent verbal and technical writing skills. Experience with NNL and NAVSEA 08 a plus.
