External Job Description:

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is offering an exciting opportunity for active duty Service members to participate in a company internship program. Opportunities for this program may be in Newport News, VA or Ballston Spa, NY.

This program allows eligible Service members (with command approval) to participate in company internships as long as they are 180 days prior to separation.

This program will serve as a talent pipeline for NNS with Service members who have transferable skills and are motivated to find employment after the military. Service members should be offered internships that can lead to full-time employment. Potential areas of opportunity include, but are not limited to the following: Production Planning, Supply Chain, Contracts & Pricing, Engineering/Technicians, Quality, Information Technology and Operations.

Some engineering, technical, and waterfront positions may require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Must be an active duty Service member with at least 180 days remaining

  2. Must be able to intern 40 hours per week

  3. Must be able to intern for 8 to 10 weeks with command approval

  4. Successfully complete a criminal background investigation to obtain company badge access

  5. US citizenship is required
