External Job Description:
The IT Software Engineer 2 is responsible for working with and leading software development teams to perform configuration engineering tasks associated with product release, including the development of product testing, builds and build releases, and maintains processes and procedures to support product builds, develops tools to assist in build automation, and monitors, records and controls change to maintain product integrity.
The software engineer must adhere to strategies, policies, and standards associated with the assignment being performed.
•Understanding of modern DevOps practices related to software build, test and deploy processes, including tools such as TFS, Jenkins, and Jira.
•Experience with software security, code quality, performance and load testing.
•Proficient in the use of source control management and defect tracking software.
•Understanding of programming concepts and best practices, including unit tests and tool suites such as Junit, ReSharper, and Sonatype.
•Plans the development of assigned product builds and build releases.
•Builds, creates and manages code deployment
•Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
•Coordinates distribution of product releases
•Establishes and maintains the release schedule for identified environments
•Coordinates with software developers, configurations analysts, and other team members both internal and external, to identify configuration items
•Maintains the release schedule
•Participates in release management meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks
•Prepares and maintains release configuration documentation
•Audits documentation to ensure release preparation
•Proficient in the use of source control management and defect tracking software
•Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and that they meet or exceed expectations
•Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
•Continually work towards making improvements in the release process
•Ability to develop scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms
•Assist with research of new software development and configuration management methodologies, tools, and technologies and analyzes their application to current configuration management needs
•Helps develop and promote best practices.
•Works with development teams to improve standards for software configuration.
•Document process and procedures related to the deployment of software.
Design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software. Set operational specifications, and formulate and analyze software requirements. May design embedded systems software.
