The Role

E12 COLUMBIA Class Engineering is an organization of highly skilled engineers who support COLUMBIA Class submarine construction by maintaining the technical requirements for structural material and assemblies produced by NNS.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the technical adequacy/compliance of our structural products, including large structural fixtures

  • Specification compliance

  • Utilizing material and technical expertise to help resolve/prevent material related problems

  • Resolving module and unit lifting and transfer related problems

  • Performance addressing cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality of a work package, subsystem, or related group of work packages on a large system development-type contract or full responsibility for all aspects of program performance on a large delivery order or mid-size technical services-type contract

  • Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidance

  • Makes decisions that support accomplishment of discipline objective

  • Oversees projects and task assigned to the organizational group performed by non-exempt and/or exempt employees

  • Policy management: Interprets and executes policies and procedures that typically affect subordinate organizational units.

  • Accomplishes results through lower-level subordinate supervisors or through experienced exempt employees who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

  • Full working knowledge of procedures and practices

  • A Master of Science degree in Engineering and professional registration with 4 years of relevant experience are preferred
